Italy–Japan Collaboration Week: Politecnico di Torino and Tohoku University

Prof. Nishiwaki received the PoliTO Japan Hub Fellow Academy certificate from Politecnico di Torino during the Japan Hub Academy Ceremony at the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Tokyo.


From September 29 to October 3, Prof. Tomoya Nishiwaki took part in a week of Italy–Japan collaboration events that highlighted the long-standing partnership between Tohoku University and Politecnico di Torino (PoliTO).


On September 29 (Mon), Prof. Nishiwaki attended the Politecnico di Torino Japan Hub Academy Ceremony held at the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Tokyo, where he was honored with the title of PoliTO Japan Hub Fellow Academy. Later that evening, the Opening Ceremony of the PoliTO Japan Hub took place at the Italian Embassy, providing a valuable opportunity for discussions on future academic and industrial collaborations with distinguished guests and representatives from both countries.


On September 30 (Tue) and October 1 (Wed), Prof. Alessandro Fantilli (Politecnico di Torino) delivered special lectures at Tohoku University titled “Design of Sustainable Concrete and Fiber-Reinforced Concrete Structures.” The lectures offered an inspiring overview of structural design, sustainability, and the role of high-performance fiber-reinforced concretes in the next generation of construction engineering.

Finally, on October 3 (Fri), Prof. Nishiwaki and Prof. Fantilli joined the Italy Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, where they gave a joint presentation titled “Superconcrete: The Future of Construction” as part of the event “Scientific Pathways from Torino to Osaka: A Cross-Cultural Collaboration Series.” The session showcased more than two decades of research collaboration between the two universities, emphasizing scientific exchange and sustainable innovation in civil engineering.
